SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

PNTC Colleges offers Senior High School (SHS) programs that are in line with our business and maritime higher education programs.

With K-12 education, students are thoroughly educated in specialized subject areas of their choice. K-12 students are able to enter the workforce with sufficient skills and training immediately after program completion or continue to higher education equipped with advanced knowledge in their chosen degree programs.

SHS students go through a core curriculum under a track of their choice. PNTC Colleges offers the following SHS programs:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime
  • Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track: Maritime Specialization

SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS (STEM)

Academic Track
•••••
As the name suggests, the STEM Strand features an interdisciplinary curriculum for students who are inclined to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Innovation, problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective communication are some of the skills this strand aims to instill in students.

TVL MARITIME SPECIALIZATION (DECK AND ENGINE)

Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track
•••••
TVL tracks are designed to provide students with job-ready practical skills and knowledge. TVL: Maritime Specialization is specifically for students who intend to work onboard right after graduating SHS.

After completing this track and passing certain assessments, you should be ready to work in a non-officer role without the need to go to college. However, if you want to become an officer, you must complete a higher education degree in BSMT or BSMarE.

PRE-BACCALAUREATE MARITIME SPECIALIZATION

Academic Track
•••••
Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization is a modified version of the STEM Strand specially made for students who want to become future merchant marine officers.

While TVL – Maritime Specialization’s goal is to equip SHS graduates for immediate work as non-officers, Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime’s long-term goal is to produce officer-level seafarers by preparing them for maritime higher education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization and
TVL: Maritime Specialization are two options to consider if you want to enter the maritime industry.

Any strand will qualify for BSMT and BSMarE,
but Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization—
an Academic Track focusing on maritime subjects—will best prepare you for maritime higher education.

Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization places more emphasis on STEM subjects to prepare you for college. TVL: Maritime Specialization focuses on practical skills to prepare you for work right after SHS.

Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization is a modified version of the STEM strand specially designed for students who want to pursue maritime programs in college. We recommend this if you plan to continue studying after SHS.

TVL: Maritime Specialization, on the other hand, is more practical than Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime (similar to a TESDA vocational course) and is for students who intend to work onboard right after graduating SHS. After completing this track and passing certain assessments, you should be ready to work in a non-officer role (e.g. deck rating) without the need to go to college. But if you want to become an officer, you must continue to college and take BSMT or BSMarE.

Yes. We design the curriculum based on our students’ SHS background. The subjects in your curriculum will vary slightly from those of a student under a maritime strand to make up for the difference in specializations.

SHS (Maritime): Ishihara Test only
SHS (Non-Maritime): none

There is NO entrance exam for SHS students.
