PRACTICAL ASSESSMENTS

Registration of assessments is open Mondays to Fridays, 8AM to 5PM, except on public holidays. Registration and assessment on the same day is not allowed.

On successful completion of assessment, trainees will receive a Certificate of Assessment from PNTC Colleges – MTC. The Daily Result of Assessment (DROA) will also be transmitted to MARINA.

Overview

Participants will undergo a series of simulator-based assessments to determine if they have the necessary competencies required for certification as deck ratings in accordance with Regulation II/4 of the STCW Convention, as amended.

Overview

Trainees will undergo a series of scenarios and practical assessment to determine if they have the necessary competencies required for certification as AB Deck in accordance with Regulation II/5 of the STCW Convention, as amended. These scenarios will test the trainees’ ability to:

  1. contribute to safe navigational watch, berthing, anchorage, and mooring operations;
  2. contribute to safe handling of cargo and stores;
  3. operate deck equipment;
  4. apply occupational health;
  5. perform shipboard maintenance and repair; and
  6. prevent pollution of environment.

Not to be confused with the AB Engine training course

For seafarers with under 18 months but at least 12 months of sea service experience, training in AB Deck (8 days) from a different training center is required before the assessment.

Overview

Participants will undergo a series of scenarios and practical assessment to determine if they have the necessary competencies required for certification as AB Engine in accordance with Regulation III/5 of the STCW Convention, as amended. These scenarios will test the trainees’ ability to:

  1. contribute to safe engineering watch;
  2. monitor an engine-room watch;
  3. perform fuelling and oil transfer;
  4. conduct bilge and ballast operations;
  5. use equipment and machinery, including electrical equipment;
  6. conduct shipboard maintenance and repair;
  7. handle stores;
  8. prevent marine pollution; and
  9. Follow occupational health and safety procedures.
